Gill Dobbie is a Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the Marsden Fund Council.

Gill has research interests in artificial intelligence, machine learning, logic, data management, and real-time processing. Her research is driven through the desire to address pressing real world problems.

Gill is very positive about the future of research in Aotearoa NZ, given the promise of diverse thinking and our history in fundamental research. She sees the Discovery Centre as a meeting place of diversity and basic research for Aotearoa NZ.

Rod Gover is a Professor of Mathematics and a Director and Secretary of the New Zealand Mathematics Research Institute.

Rod has research interests in differential geometry, geometric analysis, and mathematics physics, and the applications of these to problems in other areas of mathematics and science.

Rod is a strong believer in the search for, and use of, ideas from fundamental science and mathematics to underpin major advances in science and philosophy with far-reaching real-world impact.

Simon Harris is an Associate Professor of Probability and Deputy Head of Statistics at the University of Auckland.

Simon has research interests in probability theory, especially stochastic population models, branching processes, and coalescent processes, with problems often motivated by physics or biology, such as questions naturally arising in phylogenetics or epidemics.

Simon appreciates how fundamental science research can improve our understanding of the world around us, and lead to new advances and novel applications that enhance all our lives.
